The story of Violet Flamingo

Violet Flamingo was born from a love of creativity, individuality, and the sheer joy of making clothes that turn heads.

After earning my fashion degree in 2005, I chose to stay up North, working for an independent fashion brand. Over the next seven years, I honed my skills, gaining invaluable industry experience. But my passion for creating never stopped when I clocked out. Most evenings, I’d head home to sew, design, and craft one-of-a-kind outfits — pieces that truly stood out, tailored perfectly to my shape, and unlike anything on the high street.

Weekends were for making and partying. I lived for both! And it wasn’t long before friends started asking me to create pieces for them too. Many were plus-size, struggling to find stylish, well-fitting clothing in a market that largely ignored them. So, we made our own fashion rules. Dressed in my designs, we stepped out with confidence, looking and feeling unstoppable. And people noticed.

Strangers would ask us where we got our outfits, and that’s when I knew — this could be something. I named my brand Violet Flamingo, printed my first business cards, and started freelancing while still working my day job at Kevan Jon. Then, a turning point: changes at work meant I had a choice — find another job or take the plunge and build Violet Flamingo full-time. I chose the latter, and I’ve never looked back.

Violet Flamingo has always been about more than just fashion. It’s about celebrating individuality, empowering people to feel incredible in what they wear, and making bespoke, beautifully crafted clothing accessible to all — regardless of size, shape, or gender. Because everyone deserves to wear something that makes them feel amazing.
