Workshops
HOW IT STARTED
I didn’t set out to teach or to run workshops.
This side of my work grew naturally from conversations with young people I met while volunteering at local high schools. Through those conversations, one thing became clear — the interest in fashion and textiles is still very much there, but the opportunities to explore it are becoming harder to find.
With ongoing cuts to creative subjects in schools, many young people are no longer able to access the kind of education that first inspired me. They’re curious, creative and full of ideas, but often don’t know how to take that first step into a career in fashion and textiles.
GROWING INTO SOMETHING BIGGER
Those early conversations led to more — with academies across the Borough, as well as with Rochdale Council, community centres, youth services, galleries and local groups.
What started small quickly grew into something much bigger.
It became clear that there is a real need for accessible textile and fashion education — whether that’s:
- enrichment within schools
- support for young people outside the education system
- or creative learning opportunities for adults
These workshops have developed in response to that need.
WHY IT MATTERS
What I do means everything to me.
I love my job. I love being creative. And I care deeply about sharing that with others.
If I can help someone discover their passion — whether that’s applying to study fashion, building confidence in making and sewing, learning to repair their clothes, or simply having the space to be creative and connect with others — then that matters.
It’s not just about fashion. It’s about skills, confidence, creativity, community and those things are more important than ever.
Follow the VF socials to keep updated on my workshops. I have so much planned and I just can't wait.
Big love, Lindsey
