Saturday Night Sip & Sew: A New Monthly Sewing Social at Ebor Studio

After the success of my first Violet Flamingo Sustainable Sewing Workshop, I’ve made the decision to launch something new, a monthly Saturday Night Sip & Sew! 🧵💜

I absolutely loved seeing people come together at the first workshop, learning new skills, getting creative, sharing ideas and taking home pieces they had given a new lease of life. It confirmed exactly what I hoped these workshops could become, a space to sew, create, connect and rescue some textiles from landfill along the way.

So, once a month let's have a sociable Saturday night with a twist!

What is Sip & Sew?

Sip & Sew is your chance to bring along that garment or textile project that’s been sat at home waiting for some attention.

Maybe you have:

  • A pair of trousers that need taking up
  • A garment that needs repairing
  • Something you’ve been meaning to alter
  • An old favourite you’d love to upcycle
  • A piece of clothing that doesn't quite fit properly
  • Or simply an idea you've been dying to try!

Bring it along, bring your ideas and we’ll work together to see what we can create.

I’ll have six domestic sewing machines set up and ready to go, alongside plenty of guidance, sewing support and creative encouragement. You definitely don't need to be a sewing whizz either, beginners are very welcome! The whole idea is to learn, experiment, have a go and hopefully leave with something you're proud of.

A little handmade bonus every month

As well as working on your own alterations, repairs and upcycling projects, each monthly Sip & Sew will include an optional hand-sewing craft or skill.

This means you can come along with a project to work on, or simply join us to learn something new and get crafty!

Here's what's coming up...

September - Sashiko & Boro

September is all about the beautiful Japanese-inspired techniques of Sashiko and Boro mending.

Learn how decorative stitching, patches and visible mending can transform worn, damaged or well-loved clothing into something completely unique. Instead of hiding repairs, we'll celebrate them! 🧵✨

Perfect for denim, jackets, bags and textiles that could do with a little love.

October - Halloween Sip & Sew 🎃

October brings a spooky twist!

Alongside your own sewing, repair and upcycling projects, you'll have the chance to create Halloween decorations while learning creepy-cute hand-sewing and cross-stitch skills.

We'll be working with felt, Aida, embroidery thread and wadding to create some handmade Halloween magic for your home or wardrobe. 🎃🖤🧵

November - Festive Sip & Sew 🎄

And because one bit of handmade magic is never enough, November is getting festive!

Bring along your own projects to repair, alter or upcycle, then, if you fancy getting extra crafty, create your own cute Christmas decorations while learning simple hand-sewing, embroidery and cross-stitch skills.

Felt, Aida, embroidery thread and wadding will be provided for the festive makes — perfect for adding a little handmade magic to your Christmas. 🎄✨

A proper Saturday night sew-cial

The Violet Flamingo Sustainable Sewing Workshops are held in Gallery Frank, inside Ebor Studio, Littleborough, a thriving community of artists, makers and creatives. 💜

These sessions are about much more than just sewing. They're a chance to get out, meet other creative people, share ideas, learn new skills and spend a Saturday night doing something a little different.

I'll have the tea, coffee and juice covered, but if you fancy something a little extra, feel free to bring it along! Wine, fizz, beer or an alcohol-free tipple, it's your sew-cial, so you choose. 🥂🧵

Bring your garment, bring your project, bring an idea that's been floating around in your head for months… or just bring yourself and have a go at the monthly hand-sewing craft.

Let's rescue some clothes from landfill, learn new skills, get creative and have a good old sew-cial. 💜

Come and Sip & Sew with me!
